Spiral Dynamics Muscle Therapy presented by Trina McAtee, BA, CMT This method of massage therapy applies principles and exercises that assist the brain to improve the whole mind-body connection. It is designed for people who want to improve their physical and mental performance through body awareness. This work is based on integrating the spiral dynamics of muscles, joints and fascia through movement, breath and touch. The way we use our bodies establishes habitual patterns in the muscles, connective tissues and organs which may create discomfort and pain. When injuries occur, new patterns of compensation are overlaid on these habitual patterns, usually causing more pain. Using the spiral dynamics approach, we observe and assess the body, learn to palpate the muscles for layers of tension, and begin to unwind the tissues from habitual patterns. Utilizing spiral dynamics, deep tissue work can be done without pain or stress to the client and the therapist. We also work with clients to develop therapeutic exercises and movement appropriate for their circumstances. Clients can be taught to create and integrate more efficient movements into their daily activities. These movements help alleviate their symptoms and allow everyday activities to be more effortless. Practitioners of this concept must first realize the importance of being aware of their own body-mind connection, use these basic principles, and apply them to their own movement consciousness.
